Daniel Ulbricht, Eric Gauthier among highlights of St-Sauveur festival

The Festival des arts de Saint-Sauveur in the charming resort town of Saint-Sauveur about an hour north of Montreal in the lovely Laurentians has announced an exciting 24th season. It kicks off with The Best of Rufus Wainwright on Wednesday, July 29, and has its official opening on Thursday, July 30. All performances noted below take place at Le Grand Chapiteau – the festival’s Big Top venue.

Wednesday, July 29 • The Best of Rufus Wainwright
Hailed by Elton John as “the greatest songwriter on the planet” and praised by The New York Times for his “genuine originality,” Rufus Wainwright is among the most talented musicians of his generation. He performs a pre-opening concert in the Big Top.


Thursday, Friday, July 30 & 31 • Official Opening:
Gauthier Dance/Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart
The toast of Europe, Gauthier Dance returns to Saint-Sauveur with a program that juxtaposes dance by European master choreographers alongside exciting new work. Founded in 2007 by Quebec native Eric Gauthier, and based in Germany, the company has won worldwide acclaim.
“Utterly original, spectacular and full of feeling,” says the Stuttgarter Nachrichten.

Saturday, August 1 • Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal & Tentacle Tribe
Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal, renowned for its sizzling performances, shares the stage with Tentacle Tribe, a company that pulsates with contemporary Hip-hop influences.


Sunday, August 2 • Orchestre Métropolitain de Montreal
Yannick Nézet-Séguin, one of the brightest stars of the classical music firmament, with his internationally celebrated orchestra.


Wednesday, August 5 • Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie
The acclaimed troupe performs two hits: Looking for Elvis, choreographed by Laurence Lemieux to recordings of Presley songs and interviews; and The Man in Black, created by master choreographer James Kudelka, featuring the songs of Johnny Cash.


Thursday, August 6 • Stars of American Ballet
Daniel Ulbricht, Principal Dancer with the New York City Ballet with other star dancers from the New York City Ballet and Pennsylvania Ballet perform a thrilling program of dance by Balanchine and other American masters.

Friday, Saturday, August 7 & 8 • Les Étoiles Internationales de Ballet
For the fourth edition of the FASS gala, a dazzling line up of international artists in two evenings of spectacular solos and pas de deux. Featured performers include stars from the New York City Ballet and National Ballet of Canada; Bryan Arias from the Kidd Pivot Company; acclaimed independent artists Ana-Maria Lucaciu and Andrea Schermoly, and other surprise guests.

A program of free shows will be presented on the Desjardins Stage, featuring everything from flamenco and klezmer to dance-improv! Sunday, August 2, is Tohu-Bohu Family Day, featuring a program of activities for young festival-goers: dance, music, circus, free workshops and more.
