Le Vertige de l'étoile

CANADA //2014 / COLOR / 52 MIN / FRENCH, ENGLISH S.T. FRENCH

Canadian Guillaume Côté belongs to ballet’s international élite. A principal dancer with the National Ballet of Canada in Toronto, he is also a talented composer and choreographer. Following the artist over a two-year period, Le vertige de l’étoile features him in dazzling performances with The Kings of the Dance, in London in Romeo and Juliet, and in Monterrey in a duet with his wife, principal dancer Heather Ogden. The film also captures his daily life in Toronto, as well as a visit to his family in Lac Saint-Jean. A unique opportunity to discover the world of ballet and contemporary dance through the trajectory of one of its most accomplished artists.

UNITED STATES / FABRICE HERRAULT / 2013 / COLOR, B & W / 60 MIN / FRENCH S.T. ENGLISH

From the moment of his dramatic leap to freedom at Paris’s Bourget Airport in 1961, Rudolf Nureyev (1938-1993) was embraced as a ballet idol. On the 20th anniversary of his death, Fabrice Herrault, an eminent New York ballet teacher and film collector, has assembled an impressionistic tribute that shows the artist in some of his early performances through archival footage, much of it previously unseen, revealing “Rudi” at the peak of his powers. As director of the Paris Opera Ballet, Nureyev guided the careers of rising stars, among them Sylvie Guillem and Isabelle Guérin; the latter joined the filmmaker and dance historian Helene Ciolkovitch to share memories of her mentor.
